DESCRIPTION:The Technology Ethics Initiative would like to invite you for a
  talk by Juliana Sakai\, executive director of Transparência Brasil\, at Se
 attle University.\n\n \n\nThe Brazilian Congress has been discussing differ
 ent AI bills in recent years. Ranging from a principles-based approach to o
 ne inspired by the European Union model\, the discussion reflects concerns 
 regarding the role of regulation in safeguarding human rights while maintai
 ning an adequate environment for technology development. This lecture will 
 examine the evolution of this debate\, the role of civil society\, and the 
 situation in Brazil\, where no legal framework has yet been approved.\n\n \
 n\nJuliana Sakai is the Executive Director of Transparência Brasil\, an ind
 ependent non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the efficienc
 y and quality of public expenditures. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Inte
 rnational Relations from the University of São Paulo and a Master's in Publ
 ic Economics\, Law\, and Politics from Leuphana University of Lüneburg. Sak
 ai has also held positions at Transparency International and the United Nat
 ions Development Programme in Timor-Leste. Additionally\, she serves as an 
 expert with the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence and is an Eis
 enhower Fellow.
