##AAASSeeing Ourselves: The Power of Authentic Representation in Media
The African & African American Studies Program at Seattle University presents Dr. Victor D. Evans for the 2026 Annual Henry McGee Lecture. Dr. Evans, Associate Professor of Communication and Media at Seattle University, will deliver a lecture titled "Seeing Ourselves: The Power of Authentic Representation in Media" that explores the shifting landscape of queer visibility in television and popular media. His lecture draws on his research and creative work as the author of the Evans Sinclair Mysteries and the Luminous Void trilogy. Prior to becoming a professor, Dr. Evans was an entertainment journalist, working at numerous media organizations, including Entertainment Weekly, MTV, BET, and CNN Headline News. More information about Dr. Evans and his work is available in the SU News article, "The Importance of Authentic Representation." Don't miss this exciting evening!
The McGee lecture series honors Professor Henry Hank McGee, former Seattle University Professor of Law, who passed away on March 17, 2024. During his lifetime, he influenced many lives as a professor, scholar, activist, and musician. We will celebrate his lasting impact and continue his important work in social justice and cultural enrichment. Refreshments provided. We hope you will join us!
