PEOPLE, PLANET & PROGRESS: India’s AI Strategy for Social Good, Economic Growth, and Sustainability

 

DESCRIPTION:

People, Planet & Progress is a pre-summit event to the India–AI Impact Summit 2026, offering an interdisciplinary look at India’s emerging national strategy for artificial intelligence. Bringing together academic, industry, and policy perspectives, the program explores how AI is being positioned to advance social well-being, drive economic development, and support long-term sustainability goals.

 

Co-sponsored by SeattleU programs in business, engineering, law, and social sciences, the event features speakers from the Consulate General of India, Seattle; Badri Gopalakrishnan (Fellow, NITI Aayog think tank); Matt Oppenheimer (CEO and Co-Founder, Remitly, a leading cross-border financial services provider); and Seattle University faculty Onur Bakiner (Political Science and Director, Technology Ethics Initiative) and Sital Kalantry (Law and Founding Director, Roundglass India Center). Together, they will examine the opportunities and complexities of deploying AI at scale. Presentations will address national priorities, ethical and educational implications, and pathways for responsible innovation, followed by a panel Q&A.
