DESCRIPTION:DEFENDER INITIATIVE CONFERENCE JUNE 27\, 2025\n\n \n\nSTATE FUN
 DING\, MANAGING WORKLOADS\, BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE\n\n \n\nDefenders and 
 their advocates have had some success this year in the legislature in incr
 easing state funding for public defense.  This conference will address how
  to build on that success to expand both state and local support for publi
 c defense and address issues of excessive workload. We will discuss the on
 going issues of recruitment and retention.\n\n\nThe conference will includ
 e discussions with legislators and an ethics CLE presentation on workloads
 .\n\nWe plan break-out sessions for defenders from different regions of th
 e state and different size offices to discuss how to address issues in the
 ir jurisdictions.\n\n \nLisa Daugaard from Purpose\, Dignity\, Action\, wi
 ll lead a discussion with three Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Manager
 s from three smaller population counties on scaling viable pre-filing alte
 rnatives around the state.\n\nWe will conclude with a discussion on how de
 fenders and their allies can work together in the coming year and beyond t
 o advocate successfully for increased support.\n\n\nLunch will be provided
 .\n\n\nThere is no cost to attend this conference\, but registration is re
 quired.  Please indicate whether you can attend in person or would like to
  attend by zoom.\n\n\nThe conference will begin at 8:45 a.m. and conclude 
 by 4:45 p.m.\n\n\nGarage parking on James Street is available for moderate
  cost.
