DESCRIPTION:It is with sadness that we share the news that former Professor
  Dr. David Tinius\, passed away on Wednesday\, March 11\, 2026. The Albers
  School of Business and Economics invites Dr. Tinius' former colleagues\, 
 students and friends to join us on Saturday\, June 6 to remember the remar
 kable impact he had on our community. The service will begin at 3 pm in th
 e St. Ignatius Chapel\, followed by a reception in the Pigott Building\, P
 ACCAR Atrium.  \n\n \n\nDr. David Tinius joined Seattle University in 1971
  and was a beloved instructor for thousands of accounting students. He tau
 ght courses in management accounting and controllership\, with his control
 lership course serving as a capstone experience for many undergraduate acc
 ounting majors. Dr. Tinius was widely admired by students and alumni for h
 is sense of humor\, accessibility\, deep knowledge of the profession\, and
  unwavering commitment to student success. His research on management cont
 rols and accounting history appeared in journals including the Journal of 
 Accountancy\, Management Accounting\, and Managerial Finance.\n\n \n\nDr. 
 Tinius also made extraordinary contributions through his service to the un
 iversity and the accounting profession. He served as chair of the Departme
 nt of Accounting for 18 years between 1977 and 2003\, helping position the
  program for national recognition. During his tenure\, he oversaw the deve
 lopment of the Master of Professional Accounting degree and helped raise s
 ignificant support for accounting students and programs. He played a key r
 ole in launching the department’s tax preparation program for low-income
  community members and helped establish the Northwest Accounting Educators
  Conference. He also founded the department’s first advisory board\, whi
 ch also was the first advisory board on campus. \n\n \n\nNationally\, Dr. 
 Tinius served as president of Beta Alpha Psi and was recognized as an Outs
 tanding Beta Alpha Psi Faculty Advisor. He was also a co-founder of the Pa
 cioli Society\, created to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the public
 ation of the first treatise on double-entry bookkeeping by Luca Pacioli.\n
 \n \n\nGifts in memory of Dr. Tinius can be directed to the David E. Tiniu
 s Professorship in Accounting. \n\n \n\nParking is recommended in the Visi
 tor Lot. A parking code will be posted in the chapel entry that guests can
  use to register their vehicles when they arrive.
