 ent the fourth lecture of our 2025-2026 Visiting Artist Program. Please joi
 n us at the Raisbeck Auditorium on Friday\, January 30th at 11:30am for a c
 hance to hear from the renowned visual artist\, Humaira Abid.\n\n \n\nABOUT
  THE ARTIST\n\n \n\nHumaira Abid gathers the ordinary objects from everyday
  life and transforms them into something extraordinary. Her turned and carv
 ed wood sculpture and paintings—known for their exquisite detail—depict hum
 an relationships\, societal repression\, and the consequences of keeping ba
 sic truths from being discussed and shared. The beauty and seductive virtuo
 sity of her work offset her political\, ironic\, provocative\, and even sca
 ndalous objects and installations. \n\nHumaira Abid was born and raised in 
 Lahore\, Pakistan. She immigrated to the United States in 2008 and now live
 s and works in Seattle\, WA.\n\nAbid received her BFA in sculpture and mini
 ature painting from the National College of Arts\, Lahore\, in 2000. Her wo
 rks have been exhibited in museums and galleries and documented in publicat
 ions around the world and reviewed by local\, national\, and international 
 news media. Abid is the recipient of numerous honors\, most recently the 20
 19 Artist Trust Arts Innovator Award\, 2020 The Bob Stocksdale Internationa
 l Excellence in Wood Award and 2021 Kayla Skinner Special Recognition Award
  from Seattle Art Museum. \n\nHer work has been published in books and othe
 r print media and she has been the recipient of prestigious awards and gran
 ts. She has lectured widely and participated in residencies and symposia ar
 ound the world. Two documentary features focused on Abid and her work\, pro
 duced by the KCTS9 branch of PBS and Seattle Channel\, were both nominated 
 for Northwest Emmy Awards. The artist is represented by Greg Kucera Gallery
