Please join Staff Council for the first Socktober Fest, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, Oberto Commons (Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation). Inspired by President Peñalver’s fun, colorful and conversation-starting socks, this event is a chance to bring staff together for something lighthearted while supporting a vital community partner.

Staff Council is collecting new socks for St. Francis House, which serves hundreds of people experiencing homelessness and poverty in King County every day. Socks are one of the most requested items, and your donations will go directly to those in need.

Here’s how you can take part:

  • Wear your boldest socks and join us in Oberto Commons.

  • Donate socks and earn a raffle ticket for each pair (prizes include SU Campus Store branded socks!)

St. Francis House prefers wool socks, crew socks, white socks—and they would love as many socks as we can give them! (By their request, please do not attempt to donate money.)

  • Register your donation using our QR code to be entered into the raffle. (The QR Code will be provided at donation locations.)

  • Sock exchange: Leave a pair, take a pair at the exchange table.

  • Refreshments: Enjoy lemonade and cookies with colleagues.

Raffle Drawing: 12:45 p.m., Oct. 29, in Oberto Commons. You do not need to be present to win, but you must register your donation to be entered!

Can’t attend? You can still participate!

  • Drop off donation socks at the donation box in the Sinegal Building atrium right outside the Center for Community Engagement (available starting Monday, October 20).

  • Staff Council will be setting up an Amazon wish list to conveniently order just what’s needed. The link for that will be featured on the Staff Council intranet page as soon as the wish list is live.

More information is on the Staff Council intranet page; please visit for updates and important links.

Let’s celebrate campus spirit, honor our president’s playful sock style and make a difference together!
