 e to present a special exhibition featuring artist and Cornish staff membe
 r\, Kyung-jin Kim.\n\n \n\nOpening Date: July 11\, Saturday 1 - 4pm\nDurat
 ion: July 11 - 18\n\n \n\nSoftening the Blow is a kinetic installation tha
 t transforms alarm devices such as sirens\, warning beacons\, and mechanic
 al knocking mechanisms into slowed and softened signals. These objects are
  normally designed to demand immediate attention. In this installation the
 y operate slowly and persistently\, creating a subdued atmosphere rather t
 han an urgent warning.\n\n \n\nBio\nKyungjin Kim is a multidisciplinary ar
 tist originally from Korea and currently based in Seattle. He received his
  MFA in Sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016.
  His work has been exhibited at venues including SOIL Gallery\, METHOD Gal
 lery\, and The Vestibule Gallery in Seattle\; SPAM New Media Festival\; Hu
 nter College Thomas Hunter Project Space\; Equity Gallery\; Gallery MC\; t
 he Korean Cultural Center New York\; and the Governors Island Art Fair.\n\
 nKim has participated in residency programs including ACRE\, MASS MoCA\, V
 ermont Studio Center\, Flux Factory\, Sculpture Space\, and RU Residency. 
 His work has been supported by the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship\, Queens C
 ouncil on the Arts\, Creatives Rebuild New York\, 4Culture\, and smART Ven
 tures.\n\nHe is the co-founder of the Jeju Island Artist Collective and or
 ganizes international exhibitions\, including Smallish\, which has been pr
 esented in Seoul and Hiroshima\, with a Seattle presentation planned for 2
