The Ellacuría Seminar
Tuesday, June 24, 2025 9am to 1pm
About this Event
On behalf of the Office of Mission Integration, we invite you to participate in The Ellacuría Seminar on Social Justice in the Jesuit Tradition in June 2025. The Ellacuría Seminar is a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of the Jesuit foundations of our shared commitment to social justice through engaging conversation with faculty colleagues from across the University.
The faculty seminar will meet for discussion from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, for eight total sessions, beginning June 24 and concluding July 3. Participants will receive a stipend in recognition of their time and energy commitment to the seminar. A light breakfast (8:30-9:00 AM) and a lunch (12:00-1:00 PM) will be provided.
This brand-new Seminar, inspired by the life and work of Ignacio Ellacuría, SJ, will be facilitated by Michael Jaycox and Yancy Dominick and will invite participants to read and discuss foundational texts as well as recent scholarship centered on social justice in Catholic and Jesuit contexts.
The Seminar is designed to promote: (1) understanding of the Jesuit commitment to social justice, (2) application of what one learns to the work of research and teaching at the University, and (3) commitment to carrying on this tradition from one’s own background and positionality. It offers a scholarly and personal experience, through advance readings, discussion, and personal reflection.
If you wish to explore this opportunity, please fill out an application to indicate your interest in the seminar. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Michael Jaycox (jaycoxm@seattleu.edu) and/or Yancy Dominick (dominick@seattleu.edu).
Thank you for considering this opportunity to engage more deeply with our Jesuit commitment to social justice.
